My students continue to study about matter (solids, liquids, and gases) and are doing remarkably well understanding the difference. Today we played a "solid" game. Each Wednesday our students start school an hour late so teachers can have professional development time. Because the teaching day is one hour short, I stray from the normal routine and spend about forty-five minutes on science. I don't have very much wall space in my classroom but I do have two metal doors, a metal heat exchanger, a magnetic chalkboard, and two metal cabinets. Magnets are the way I display many items. A teacher on my team(thank you, Kathy) shared this great item from Really Good Stuff. We use Everyday Math in my school which focuses on a lot of number line work. This is a magnetic number line with arrows and arcs which show the progress of the frog hopping as you add, subtract, or count by 1's, 2's, 5's, or 10's.
